About Us

About Us

Health For All Coalition-Sierra Leone (HFAC-SL) is a Civil Society Non- Governmental Organization in Sierra Leone focuses on health and health related issues. It is a network of more than 200 Civil Society activists at National, Sub-national and Community levels HFAC is legally registered with the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organization (SLANGO), the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) and the administrative Local Councils in Sierra Leone as a health advocacy and accountability promotion organization in the health sector. We are operational in all the 16 districts (represented by district coordinators), with National Office located in Freetown 50 Fort Street, Regional Offices in Makeni, Bo, and Kenema and physical representation in all the 190 Chiefdoms (190 Chiefdom Civil Society Community Volunteers) of Sierra Leone.

Health For All Coalition Sierra Leone (HFAC-SL) was established to bridge the gaps in healthcare delivery across the nation. We work tirelessly to strengthen healthcare systems, advocate for policy changes, and provide grassroots solutions to address the most pressing health challenges in Sierra Leone.

Our Contributions

  • Supporting the Government to translate national policies, strategies, and plans into concrete actions that will transform the lives of children, adolescents, families, and communities across Sierra Leone.
  • Addressing knowledge, attitudes, and practices gaps to enrich the lives of children, adolescents, women, and families in all 16 districts of Sierra Leone.
  • Generating and sharing evidence and data that inform policies, programs, and strategies.
  • Enhancing the functionality of community structures like the facility management committees, village development committees, women coalition on vaccines and immunization, Nar wi rights-Justice For Rural Development, etc.
  • Strengthening feedback mechanisms that use data and evidence to address inequalities, vulnerabilities, stigma, and discrimination.
  • Our first ten years focused mainly on child survival issues through interventions on health, nutrition, and uptake of essential social services.
  • Promoting maternal, child, and adolescent health and nutrition.
  • Development, protection, and engaging children and young people.
  • Enhancing environmental protection, emergency preparedness, and response, including support for sustainable livelihoods.

National Spread

Health For All Coalition has functional offices in all regional Headquarter towns of Bo, Kenema, Makeni, Port Loko, and District Offices in Kailahun, Kono, and Kambia.

Headquarters and Human Resources

HFAC has a three-story building in a compound at 50 Fort Street, which has served as its headquarters since 2008.

HFAC-SL has a dedicated Human Resource team (Staff and Volunteers), with 60% being women and young people across all districts, chiefdoms, and communities in Sierra Leone. The team includes:

  • 16 District Coordinators
  • 5 Regional Supervisors
  • 191 Community and Chiefdom Focal Persons and Volunteers

Legal Status

HFAC –SL is legally registered and recognized by the Government of Sierra Leone and partners through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Ministry of Development and Economic Planning. Our coalition has signed a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. HFAC-SL is also registered with Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (SLANGO).

Work Experience, Partners, and Projects

  • HFAC-SL partners with the World Health Organization (WHO) to monitor and report series of Health-related activities, including National Immunization Day Activities, Polio vaccination, Measles, and public education sensitization.
  • Partner with MOHS in Health Education, monitoring community health interventions, and policy makers' engagement, including disease detection and outbreak responses (Cholera, Ebola, and COVID-19).
  • Received support from MOHS and partners to campaign for and lobby with Parliament and Government to enact and sign into law key health policies such as the Public Health Act, Allied Health Workers Act, and Sierra Leone Social Health Insurance Act (SLESHI).
  • Led the campaign and independent monitoring of the implementation of the Free Health Care supported by DFID/FCDO through Crown Agent, UNICEF, and UNFPA.
  • Monitored and reported on the supplies of medical and drug supplies nationwide with support from UNFPA and UNICEF.
  • Led the Consortium of Service NGOs and CSOs to implement the Health Governance Project for three years supported by UNICEF.
  • Conducted community engagements on Health, Women, Children, and Youth Empowerment supported by UNICEF.
  • Partnered with Save the Children UK to upgrade the Kailahun district office and supply essential equipment.
  • Conducted campaigns against all forms of violence and discrimination against women, children, girls, and persons with disabilities.
  • Established, monitored, and strengthened Facility Management Committees (FMCs) and Village Development Committees (VDCs) supported by MOHS and UNICEF.

Membership

  • Member of the MOHS Technical Working Groups on Vaccines and Immunizations, Malaria, Non-Communicable Disease, and Quality Assurance.
  • Representative of NGOs and CSOs on the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission, Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Councils, and National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA).
  • Operates with 16 District Coordinators, 191 Community Focal Persons, and 5 Regional Supervisors.
  • HFAC-SL Gender/Women Directorate focuses on Women, Girls, and Children Empowerment, Protection, and Human Rights.
  • Member of the Health Sector Steering Committee (HSSC) and Child Rights Coalition - Sierra Leone.
  • Chair of the CSO Coalition on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Child Welfare Society - Sierra Leone (CWS-SL).
  • Board Member – Sierra Leone Allied Health Council.

Governing Council
